“… for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.”

Everything in life has a beginning. Nothing has ever come to existence without reason; it all started somewhere and with a great purpose. Your story has a great beginning.

Around the age of 6, I started asking the question that any parent probably avoids answering as long as possible – “where do babies come from?” Being raised in a Christian household, my mother would always reply back by simply saying they were God’s gift. For some time I found that answer satisfying however, the older I got the more I wanted to understand how this ‘gift from God’ came to be.

Eventually, a few years later my mother sat me down and further explained that babies were a product of love shared between two people. From the moment I heard those words they became engraved in my mind – a product of love. Since then, these words have shaped my view of life, and reason for existence.

For the most part my mother was right; we are a product of love, but whose love? From the physical aspect, we can simply say that two people in an intimate relationship were able to reproduce; but as we all know, not all intimate relationships are driven by love. So that brings us back to this question: Whose product of love are we really? If we dared to look at the greater picture, we would begin to understand that it wasn’t just an intimate experience between two people that brought us here. There was a greater entity that desired, and anxiously longed for our existence.

But who is this entity? And why did it desire to bring us into existence? In Jeremiah 31:3 God says it beautifully, “I have loved you with an everlasting love…”  Do we fully grasp the concept of “everlasting”, let alone of “love”? Think about the word “everlasting”. This means eternal, infinite, undying.  A love that exists outside the boundaries of time.  This love goes beyond any measures of love that we know.

It’s unconditional, and unchanging; it’s not based on who you are, where you have come from, or what you have done.  It’s love without reason.  Do you understand that? In other words, you were desired for love and created by love.  Perhaps you are still not able to fully wrap your mind around this, but matters of God’s sovereignty are meant to transcend our physical minds.

Despite this beautiful truth, the sad reality remains that many today have a negative view of life. There are people who beat themselves up emotionally and mentally because they believe they are a product of their environment; a product of a broken family, a product of their addiction or abuse, a product of their past mistakes, and so on.

In other words, they can’t think highly of themselves because they believe they are a product of something low and worthless – that itself acts as a limitation to their real potential. Although they were created by something eternal and everlasting, they associate themselves with what is physical and temporary.  The truth is, the only way we can begin to see the greatness built within us, is when we understand that we ourselves are a product of something great.

So to conclude, I will leave you with these last thoughts to think about as you begin your week.  What marked the beginning of your story was when He desired you for love, and saw that you needed His love to continue to exist.

Therefore, you are not simply a product of your parent’s decisions. You are not a product of a broken home, you are not a product of people’s judgement, or your environment, or your circumstances, or your failures, or your regrets, or your weaknesses, or your past. You are a product of love – HIS great, eternal, undying, unchanging, unconditional love. That’s the beginning of your story – never let anyone else tell you otherwise.

“Your love, Oh Lord, reaches to the heavens…” Psalm 36:5

Have a blessed week. See you next Monday!
